Consumer and commercial products may be defective or unreasonably dangerous for three different reasons. First, the design of the product itself may be flawed. The second reason is a manufacturing flaw. Most often, these cases involve manufacturers trying to save money by using lower quality materials in the manufacturing process. Examples of this have most recently been seen in tire defect and defective medical device litigation.
The third basis for a defective product claim is an information defect. These kinds of cases usually involve products that can be dangerous if not used correctly (pharmaceutical drugs are a good example).
