Following a truck crash in Kentucky that killed 10 others along with the truck driver, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is calling for stronger median barriers separating two-way traffic. In the Kentucky truck accident, the semi crossed the median and drove right through cable cord barriers into oncoming traffic, colliding with a passenger van.

Allstate, an insurance company, annually ranks the 200 largest cities throughout the United States in the Allstate America's Best Drivers Report. The rankings are intended to list the safest cities first and are based on the frequency of car crashes. Memphis slid 10 spots on the 2011 report, dropping from 48th in 2010 to 58th in 2011.
NTSB Renews Call for Stability Controls in Trucks, School Buses
After research confirmed the effectiveness of electronic stability controls (ESC) and rollover stability control (RSC) in preventing rollovers, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) renewed its recommendation to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for regulation requiring trucks and buses to be equipped with stability controls.
