There are many ways that one can exhibit negligence while behind the wheel of a car. One can drive while tired, while talking on a cellphone or while drunk. But one of the most reckless types of behavior that one can do while driving is drag racing. And a tragic drag racing car accident to unfold in Memphis recently has left one person dead.
According to reports, three Ford Mustangs were racing in the early morning hours on Air Park Street near Raines Road when two of the cars collided with a vehicle that was not involved in the race. The driver of that car was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
According to police, the racers’ vehicles were traveling at approximately 75 mph in a 30-mph zone. One can not state enough how dangerous and reckless this type of behavior is.
One of the racers, a 20-year-old male, has already been charged with vehicular homicide. Another driver, who is in the hospital, has not been charged yet, while the driver of the third Mustang fled the scene.
It’s a good bet that none of the people involved in the drag race thought about the disastrous consequences that could lie ahead before they acted so stupidly. It’s sad that an innocent driver had to pay the price for these actions.
Drivers need to learn to check their egos before getting behind the wheel. Unless you are on a closed race track, there is no reason to be drag racing. The family of the victim may have strong grounds to hold these reckless drivers accountable.
