Dog Bite Attorneys in Memphis
Help for Dog Bite Injury Victims throughout the Memphis Tri-State Area
Generally, dog owners have a duty to control their animals and not let them roam free. When they fail to do that, and someone else is injured as a result, the injured person can seek compensation regardless of the dog’s breed — pit bulls, Rottweilers, poodles, and Pomeranians included.
Since 1970, Gatti, Keltner, Bienvenu & Montesi, PLC has been helping people get the compensation they deserve for injuries and other losses resulting from animal attacks and dog bite injuries. To put our experience and resources to work for you, all you need to do is call.

How to Support Your Dog Bite Claim
Whether it’s an injury to your child or to yourself, getting appropriate medical care is always the number one priority. Do this as soon as possible. Also, if there is time and you’re able to do it or have someone do it for you, get the name and contact information of the dog’s owner and any potential witnesses before you leave. When you see a doctor, don’t minimize or leave out any information about your injuries. If possible, take a set of before-and-after pictures of the injuries or scars.
The other thing to keep in mind after suffering a dog bite injury is that the insurance companies are not your friends, and you should not make any statements about the accident to anyone other than law enforcement — not even to your doctor. Wait until you talk to a lawyer.

Obtaining the Money You Deserve
A dog attack doesn’t have to be as horrific as someone being mauled to death in order to have serious, life-changing consequences. A victim can suffer from the effects of permanent disfigurement, low self-esteem, severe psychological trauma, and an inability to enjoy life. There can be other complications as well, including potentially deadly secondary infections caused by dog saliva.
You shouldn’t have to bear the costs of these injuries at all, and certainly not alone. Our Memphis dog bite lawyers are here to help make sure that you don’t.

Tennessee Dog Bite Laws
Under Tennessee law, a dog owner is responsible for keeping reasonably under control and preventing it from running at large. If the owner violates this rule and their dog attacks another person, they can be held liable for damages. For example, a dog may be penned up in their yard (not running at large), but has an aggessive demeanor and bites someone through the fence (not under control).
The biggest exception to this rule is if the victim provoked the dog or the attack occured on residential property.

“One Bite” Rule
The “one bite” rule allows a dog bite victim in Tennesee to still seek damages if the attack occured on private property IF they can prove the owner had previous knowledge of the dog’s aggressive demeanor. This, of course, incredibly difficult to prove, especially without the assistance of a dog bite attorney. Gatti, Keltner, Bienvenu & Montesi has the experience and resources necessary to investigate your dog bite claim and pursue the damages you deserve!
